III.- METHODOLOGY


In order to obtain a representative sample in the application of this questionnaire, it was determined to be carried out in the six municipal delegations, being distributed in accordance with sampling criteria. This enabled the acquisition of a data base applicable to the statistical program SPSS.

The qualified and supervised personnel gathered the information from the households in which, in a random way, were determined their application.

The fieldwork was done during a four day period, with four surveyors aided by a supervisor, who in turn, coordinated the application of the questioner, as well as the gathering of the information.

III.A.- Sampling:

783 surveys were done, with 95% reliability, and a 3.5% margin of error; representative of Tijuana's population over 18 years of age.

III.B.- Data Collection Method:

The method used for the random selection of the households that participated in the study was the -Probability by Area- method. The sample was distributed proportionally, according with the population of each neighborhood under study, fulfilling the quotas of the social and economic level already established.

The requirements for the application of the questionnaire were:
1. Residence: Tijuana, BC
2. Age: 18 years or older.

III.C. - Fieldwork:

There were 4 trained surveyors, as well as a field supervisor in order to gather the information; the time spent per questionnaire was between 3 to 5 minutes.

The fieldwork took place during a 4 day span; namely, from June 9th to June 13th 2001.

IV.D. - Validation:

The survey was validated and supervised in the following manner:
1. Directly on the field, or in the households.
2. Through the statistical program, SPSS,
while working with the data base.
